Coppermint

Flower type: Perennial (Stores water in its stem)

This short flower grows up to 1 inch (3 cm) tall. Its gray-green and slate stems grow in bunches of 5 and are thick with a curved tip, and the giant, burgundy leaves are thin with smooth edges. Many leaves grow at the base of the stem, and more leaves alternate on the stem from about halfway up, up to the flower head.

2 to 6 large flowers grow on alternate sides up the length of the stem. The flowers are 1 cm (0.4 inches) wide, with solid copper petals decorated with crimson lines and a bold green central disk. The flower head is made up of handfuls of petals in raised layers. They detach easily.

It has a scent that varies in strength that smells like mint, and it has an average amount of pollen. It is pollinated by the wind, but is also particularly attractive to bees.

The stems are covered in large spikes.
