Crimson Spire

Succulent type: Caudiciform (Stores water in the thickened base of its stem)

This short caudiciform grows up to 1 foot (30.5 cm) tall. The stiff, pointed stem is gray-green, and is dotted with small bright yellow spines. The curved, red trunk can grow to as much as 1 foot (30.5 cm) in diameter at the bottom. Its green branches are very long and thin and start growing at the top the stem.

The copious amounts of serrated-edged, very thin leaves are either orange, or crimson with cream dots. They are tough, but take some effort to detach.

It is steady-growing, taking 21 months to reach maturity. Once mature, several flowers with solid crimson petals decorated with lilac lines and a pink central disk grow at the top, reappearing every year. The flower head is made up of 11 petals in raised layers. It has a scent that varies in strength that smells like cinnamon.

The caudiciform's skin is nearly impenetrable, the slate flesh is leathery, and the hazel sap is thin and causes severe cramps if consumed.

It out-competes most other plants for nutrients and light.
It is possible to grow it from cuttings.
