This moss green moss is commonly found growing in small clumps On trees, and On rotten logs.
It is small, growing up to 3 inches (8 cm) tall. It forms in thin clumps and they spread and grow quickly, and is extremely light; it takes a lot of damage when trodden on.
When mature, emerald cylindrical capsules grow at the end of short, lime green sporophytes, eventually opening up during the late summer to release thousands of spores.

It spreads easily and often blanket large areas.
It is said to be able to live for hundreds of years.
It is suitable for use as a construction material
