Aquafruit Tree

Fruit Tree type: Deciduous (Stores water in the thickened base of its stem)

This small fruit tree grows up to 5 feet (1.5 meters) tall and lives for up to 15 years, with the oldest known specimen being around 16 years old. It is very resistant to disease but is susceptible to destructive insect infestation.

It has a very thick, straight trunk covered in knobbly, burgundy and brown bark, and inside, the very light wood is yellow.

The branches are tall, rigid and upright and are covered with small bunches of miniature, circular leaves with rounded edges. The leaves themselves are found in aquamarine and brown varieties.

In early spring, it produces hundreds of small, purple blossoms with broad, flat petals with a tube-like floral cup. They are hardy and have a delicate scent that smells like burning wood.

In late autumn it produces tiny, long, curved fruit. The smooth gold skin is delicate and sweet and salty, and the slightly crunchy purple flesh is bitter and salty and very juicy. The dark grey seeds are large and are located in the centre of the fruit.

The roots are shallow and grow straight down, and overall the tree is sturdy, flexible, and difficult to uproot or break.

Forests of this species feature the trees packed together, with grassy ground between them.
