Crimson Goldsucculent

Succulent type: Caudiciform (Stores water in the thickened base of its stem)

This small caudiciform grows up to 7 feet (2.1 meters) tall. The sickle shaped stem is red, and is covered in copious amounts of rigid subtle red spines. It has a twisting, flat, black trunk atop a wide tripod of silky, exposed roots. The branches are wide and emerald and are short, rigid and upright.

The jagged-edged, circular leaves are generally gold. They are rigid, but take little effort to detach.

It is slow growing, taking 16 years to reach maturity. Once mature, and only under the right conditions, several flowers with petals that are either cream or crimson, with a yellow center grow at the top, reappearing after 10 years, but only when the conditions are right again. The flower head is an uncoordinated mess of up to 50 petals. It has a delicate scent that smells like apple.

The caudiciform's skin is thick, the intense red flesh is waxy, and the black sap is thin and can cause blindness if consumed.
