This yellow moss is commonly found growing in medium-sized clumps In moorlands, and On rotten logs.
It is average-sized, growing up to 5 inches (13 cm) tall. It forms in small clumps and they are slow to spread and grow, and is slightly robust.
When mature, emerald circular capsules grow at the end of short, lime green sporophytes, eventually opening up during the late summer to release millions of spores.

It is difficult to kill and will quickly regrow if it falls or if its limbs are knocked off.
