It takes 2 years for the orange-yellow stems to mature, by which point they have often fused together into ropes with a diameter of 4 inches (10 cm) and are rough and prickly.
The needle-like, waxy leaves reach up to 5 inches (13 cm) in length. They are a shade of grey that gradient shifts to muted yellow at the top, and have wavy edges.
During late spring, the creeper produces handfuls of average muted yellow flowers, and during the early winter, after flowering, it produces plenty of large fruits.
Several parts of the grass have medicinal properties.
