It takes 7 months for the orange-yellow and gray-green stems to mature, by which point they sometimes have a diameter of 3 cm (1.2 inches) and remain soft and fleshy.
The very thin, smooth leaves reach up to 5 inches (13 cm) in length. They are found in amber and aquamarine varieties, and have rounded edges.
During late spring, the vine produces a handful of colossal cream flowers, and during the late autumn, after flowering, it produces a few large seed pods.
It is suitable for creating strong, durable textiles
Their seeds have hallucinogenic properties.
