Mahogany Twistvine

Shrub type: Coniferous (Stores water in its stem)

This average-sized shrub grows up to 3 feet (91.4 cm) tall and lives for decades, with the oldest known specimen being around 130 years old. It is very resistant to destructive insect infestation but susceptible to disease.

It has several thick, twisting stems covered in thin, wrinkled, brown-green bark, and the wood inside is mahogany-coloured.

The branches are very long, thin and wispy with dozens of twigs that and are covered with sparse amounts of large, long, narrow, leaves with smooth edges. The leaves themselves are either turquoise or purple, with pink edges, tough and leathery.

In early summer it produces dozens of tiny, cream flowers with 7 umbrella-shaped shaped petals. They fall easily and have the faintest scent that smells like sweat.

It is often home to a particular bird species.
