Burgundy Water Lily

This average-sized flower grows up to 1.8 feet (56 cm) tall. Its burgundy stem is very thick, and the giant, pink-red leaves are very thin with tattered edges. Many leaves grow at the base of the stem, and a pair of leaves grow at the base of the flower head.

Two small flowers sit at the end of each stem. The flowers are 29 cm (11.4 inches) wide, with solid silver petals decorated with olive lines and a dark brown central disk. The flower head is an uncoordinated mess of 32 curved petals. They fall easily.

It has a delicate scent that smells like rotten eggs, and it has lots of pollen; it can cause severe allergic reactions. It is pollinated by insects and is particularly attractive to butterflies.
