Clinging Knobcone

This small shrub grows up to 1 foot (30.5 cm) tall and lives for around 32 years. It is very susceptible to disease and insect infestation.

It has numerous slender, slanted stems covered in very thick, knobbly, black with white speckled bark, and the wood inside is gray.

The branches are long and thin with hundreds of twigs that and are covered with copious amounts of miniature, fan-like, leaves with wavy edges. The leaves themselves are slate with brown tips, resilient and rough.

In mid-summer it produces several small, white blossoms with wide petals with a trumpet-shaped floral cup. They detach easily and have a delicate scent that smells like fresh linen.

In midwinter tiny broad, flat fruits ripen. The leathery beige skin is thick and inedible, and the slightly crunchy brown flesh is sour and oily. The grey seeds are large and are located in the centre of the fruit.
