Pineapple Willow

This small fruit tree grows up to 5 feet (1.5 meters) tall and lives for up to 25 years, with the oldest known specimen being around 27 years old. It is not very resistant to disease and destructive insect infestation.

It has a flexible, slanted trunk covered in wrinkled, yellow bark, and inside, the medium-dense wood is white.

The small handful of branches trail down across the ground and are covered with copious amounts of large, fan-like leaves with irregular edges. The leaves themselves are found in yellow, olive and indigo varieties.

In early spring, it produces balls of medium-sized, gold blossoms with 2 triangular shaped petals. They fall easily and have an intensely strong scent that smells like cotton.

In mid-summer it produces , asymmetrical fruit. The crispy light brown skin is delicate and spicy, and the crunchy vivid green flesh is sweet and sour and syrupy. The red seeds are small and are scattered throughout the fruit.

The roots are shallow and grow straight down, and overall the tree is rigid and weak, and breaks apart easily.

Forests of this species feature trees spaced far apart, with clear space between them.
