Crimson Bog Moss

This red moss is commonly found blanketing medium-sized areas In bogs.
It is small, growing up to 3 inches (8 cm) tall. It forms in thin clumps and they are exceptionally hardy, and is extremely rigid.
When mature, emerald cylindrical capsules grow at the end of short, lime green sporophytes, eventually opening up during the early winter to release thousands of spores.
