Copper Starflower

Flower type: Annual (Grows along the ground or other low surfaces.)

This average-sized flower grows up to 10 inches (25 cm) tall. Its deep purple stem is very thin, and the large, copper leaves are wide with jagged edges. The leaves grow in pairs along the length of the stem.

Dozens of medium-sized flowers grow in a bunch at the end of the stem. The flowers are 12 cm (4.7 inches) wide, with petals that are generally amber; each flower tends to be a variation of this colour. The flower head is shaped like a star with 45 tightly layered, narrow petals. They are very delicate.

It has an intensely strong scent that smells like lavender, and it has a fair amount of pollen. It is pollinated by the wind and is ignored by most insect species.

The bark is frequently covered in moss.
It is suitable for making strong rope
A particular bird species likes to nest in it.
