Breadfruit Tree

This short fruit tree grows up to 6 feet (1.8 meters) tall and lives for up to 35 years, with the oldest known specimen being around 68 years old. It is very resistant to disease and destructive insect infestation.

It has a long and flexible, wonky trunk covered in silky, dark brown bark, and inside, the medium-dense wood is yellow-brown.

The tangled mess of branches are short, rigid and upright and are covered with sparse amounts of tiny, perforated leaves with ripped edges. The leaves themselves are black on the edges and green at the center.

In early spring, it produces several tiny, amber blossoms with 7 triangular shaped petals. They are sturdy and have a strong scent that smells like freshly baked bread.

In late autumn it produces , 5 pointed fruit. The smooth dark red skin is thin and inedible, and the crunchy cream flesh is sweet and spicy and very dry. The brown seed is tiny and is in the centre of the fruit.

The roots grow as a near perfect mirror of the tree above, and overall the tree is rigid and weak, and breaks apart easily.

Forests of this species feature well-spaced trees, with clear space between them.
