Chocolate Daisy

Flower type: Biennial (Grows along the ground or other low surfaces.)

This modest-sized flower grows up to 1.4 feet (43 cm) tall. Its brown stem is very thick and straight with a curved tip, and the huge, moss green leaves are long, narrow with rounded edges. Many leaves grow along the entire length of the stem.

4 to 8 small flowers grow on alternate sides up the length of the stem. The flowers are 3 cm (1.2 inches) wide, with petals that are generally yellow; each flower tends to be a variation of this colour. The flower head is made up of 12 petals in raised layers. They detach easily.

It has a mildly strong scent that smells like chocolate, and it has very little pollen, but can cause severe allergic reactions. It is pollinated by insects and is particularly attractive to a specific species.
