Burgundy Spiremint

Succulent type: Caudiciform (Stores water in the thickened base of its stem)

This huge caudiciform grows up to 167 feet (50.9 meters) tall. The tapering stem is burgundy, and is dotted with small slate spines. The bulbous, beige trunk can grow to as much as 167 feet (50.9 meters) in diameter. Its gray branches are tall, rigid and upright.

The tattered-edged, needle-like leaves are found in brown and lime varieties. They are hardy, and take some effort to detach.

It is fast growing, taking 11 months to reach maturity. Once mature, and only under the right conditions, a single flower with sky blue petals and a brown central disk grows at the top, reappearing after 3 years, but only when the conditions are right again. The flower head is shaped like a sphere made up of many tightly layered, narrow petals. It has an overpowering scent that smells like mint.

The caudiciform's skin is tough, the dull purple flesh is waxy, and the violet sap is thin.

It is possible to grow it from cuttings.
