Flower type: Biennial (Grows along the ground or other low surfaces.)

This short flower grows up to 6 inches (15 cm) tall. Its red stems grow in bunches of 3 and are thick and straight, and the small, orange-yellow leaves are fan-like with jagged edges. A pair of leaves grow at the base of the stem.

Each stem splits 6 to 8 times; a single medium-sized flower grows at the end of each split. The flowers are 3 cm (1.2 inches) wide, with petals that are bright orange on the edges and brown at the center. The flower head is shaped like a cup made up of 13 tightly layered, round-tipped petals. They detach easily.

It has a faint scent that smells like coconut, and it has a fair amount of pollen. It is pollinated by a small species of bird, but is enjoyed by several specific types of insect.
