Climbing Mahogany Berry Tree

This average-sized fruit tree grows up to 17 feet (5.2 meters) tall and lives for up to 15 years, with the oldest known specimen being around 16 years old. It is very susceptible to disease and insect infestation.

It has a branched, curved trunk covered in hard, cracked, black with white speckled bark, and inside, the soft wood is mahogany-coloured.

The numerous branches are long and thin and are covered with large amounts of huge, thick leaves with rounded edges. The leaves themselves are generally white.

In early spring, it produces large amounts of tiny, azure blossoms with 4 V-shaped shaped petals. They are very delicate and have an overpowering scent that smells like a newborn baby.

In mid-summer it produces tiny, long, curved fruit. The soft cyan skin is thin and spicy and salty, and the soft blood red flesh is savoury and very juicy. The ashy yellow seeds are small and are scattered throughout the fruit.

The roots are shallow and widely spread, and overall the tree is sturdy, flexible, and difficult to uproot or break.

Forests of this species feature trees spaced far apart, with the space between filled with undergrowth.
