Groundpine

This big tree grows up to 82 meters (269.0 feet) tall and lives for over 1,000 years, with the oldest known specimen being around 1810 years old. It is very susceptible to disease and insect infestation.

It has a sturdy, straight trunk covered in paper-thin, rough, mahogany-coloured bark, and inside, the very light wood is pale brown-grey.

The excessive amount of branches are short, rigid and upright, covered with large amounts of large, brown needles. The needles themselves are light.

In late summer it produces giant, hazel, winged seeds that spin and fall nearby.

The roots spread far and go deep underground, and overall the tree is rigid and weak, and breaks apart easily.

Forests of this species feature well-spaced trees, with patches of undergrowth between them.
