Blue Spine Caudex

Succulent type: Caudiciform (Stores water in the thickened base of its stem)

This short caudiciform grows up to 12 feet (3.7 meters) tall. The wide stem is green, and is covered in brittle beige spines. The stumpy, orange trunk can grow to as much as 12 feet (3.7 meters) in diameter. Its green branches trail down to the ground.

The wavy-edged, wispy leaves are hazel on the edges and slate at the center. They are flimsy, but are very difficult to pull away.

It is slow growing, taking 17 years to reach maturity. Once mature, and only under the right conditions, a handful of flowers, with light brown petals on the lower layer and subtle blue petals decorated with azure dots on the inner layer. The central disk is cream, grow at the top, reappearing after 10 years, but only when the conditions are right again. The flower head is shaped like a tube made up of many raised, round-tipped petals. It has an overpowering scent that smells like roses.

The caudiciform's skin is thin, the subtle blue flesh is smooth, and the sky blue sap is thin.
