Carambola Spike

Succulent type: Caudiciform (Stores water in the thickened base of its stem)

This enormous caudiciform grows up to 140 feet (42.7 meters) tall. The asymmetrical stem is yellow-green, and is covered in brittle lime spines. The stocky, caramel trunk can grow to as much as 140 feet (42.7 meters) in diameter. Its emerald branches are short, rigid and upright.

The smooth-edged, very narrow and elongated leaves are yellow with lilac tips. They are resistant, but easily come away when pulled.

It is steady-growing, taking 5 years to reach maturity. Once mature, and only under the right conditions, a handful of flowers, with solid crimson petals decorated with red lines and a azure central disk, grow at the top, reappearing after 3 years, but only when the conditions are right again. The flower head is shaped like a cube made up of 17 widely spaced, narrow petals. It has a delicate scent that smells like marzipan.

The caudiciform's skin is delicate, the black flesh is rubbery, and the copper sap is thin.

Once on fire, it burns very quickly.
It is suitable for creating tough, hard-wearing textiles
