This modest-sized creeper is a steady-growing plant, with the largest known specimen reaching a length of 38 feet (11.6 meters) and growing as high as 101 feet (30.8 meters).

It takes 19 months for the red or slate stems to mature, by which point they can reach a diameter of 2 inches (5 cm) and remain soft and fleshy.

The needle-like, smooth leaves reach up to 8 inches (20 cm) in length. They are cyan and bold orange, and have smooth edges.

During late spring, the creeper produces several tiny blood red flowers, and during the early winter, after flowering, it produces a modest amount of large fruits.
