Clingingpine

This enormous shrub grows up to 12 feet (3.7 meters) tall and lives for around 83 years. It is very susceptible to disease and insect infestation.

It has numerous wide, curved stems covered in knobbly, yellow-brown bark, and the wood inside is pine-coloured.

The branches trail down towards the ground that and are covered with sparse amounts of tiny, needle-like, leaves with jagged edges. The leaves themselves are silver at the bottom and grey with bold purple patches at the top, durable and leathery.

In late spring it produces thousands of small, brown blossoms with fan-like petals. They are very delicate and have a weak scent that smells like cheap aftershave.

In mid-autumn long, tapering fruits ripen. The smooth slate skin is stretchy and inedible, and the slightly crunchy green flesh is sweet and juicy. The orange seeds are small and are located in the centre of the fruit.
