Clinging Vinefruit

This enormous fruit tree grows up to 69 feet (21.0 meters) tall and lives for up to 15 years, with the oldest known specimen being around 21 years old. It is very resistant to disease but is susceptible to destructive insect infestation.

It has a thick, angular trunk covered in silky, dark gray bark, and inside, the soft wood is burgundy.

The branches are short, thin and wispy and are covered with handfuls of tiny, spear shaped leaves with toothed edges. The leaves themselves are found in olive and pink varieties.

In early spring, it produces dozens of large, white blossoms with stiff, pointed petals with a tube-like floral cup. They detach easily and have a weak scent that smells like misty mornings.

In early summer it produces tiny, 3 pointed fruit. The soft amber skin is delicate and salty, and the crunchy indigo flesh is spicy and sour and syrupy. The crimson seeds are tiny and are scattered throughout the fruit.

The roots are shallow and widely spread, and overall the tree is sturdy and rigid.

Forests of this species feature well-spaced trees, with grassy ground between them.
