Copperleaf

Flower type: Perennial (Stores water in the thickened base of its stem)

This modest-sized flower grows up to 1.5 feet (46 cm) tall. Its copper stem is very thin and straight, and the large, silver leaves are asymmetrical with toothed edges. Many leaves grow along the entire length of the stem.

Two tiny flowers sit at the end of the stem. The flowers are 6 cm (2.4 inches) wide, with petals that are gentle yellow in the center, hazel in the middle and purple at the edges. The flower head is shaped like a trumpet made up of dozens of raised, narrow petals. They detach easily.

It has a faint scent that smells like cinnamon, and it has excessive amounts of pollen; it can can cause allergic reactions. It is pollinated by insects , but is also visited by a small species of bird.

The sap is sky blue.
