Speckled Fir

This modest-sized tree grows up to 51 meters (167.3 feet) tall and lives for decades, with the oldest known specimen being around 141 years old. It is very resistant to destructive insect infestation but susceptible to disease.

It has a thick, curved trunk covered in thin, wrinkled, black with white speckled bark, and inside, the soft wood is white with black speckles.

The branches are short, rigid and upright, covered with small bunches of large, moss green needles. The needles themselves are light.

In late summer it produces small, caramel seed pods.

The roots form a tightly packed ball, and overall the tree is sturdy, flexible, and difficult to uproot or break.

Forests of this species feature the trees packed together, with clear space between them.
