This average-sized fruit tree grows up to 13 feet (4.0 meters) tall and lives for up to 25 years, with the oldest known specimen being around 37 years old. It is very susceptible to disease and insect infestation.

It has a branched, straight trunk covered in thick, smooth, silver bark, and inside, the very light wood is light brown.

The sparse amount of branches are short, rigid and upright and are covered with copious amounts of small, long, narrow leaves with serrated edges. The leaves themselves are sky blue on the edges and olive at the center.

In early spring, it produces lots of medium-sized, purple blossoms with oblong shaped petals. They are hardy and have a soft scent that smells like blood.

In mid-autumn it produces , stiff, pointed fruit. The waxy blue skin is peel-able and edible when cooked; it is sour, and the crunchy cyan flesh is sweet and powdery. The bronze seeds are small and are scattered throughout the fruit.

The roots are fine and grow in a large web, and overall the tree is rigid and weak, and breaks apart easily.

Forests of this species feature trees spaced far apart, with the space between them filled with thick undergrowth.
