Mahogany Spikefern

This short shrub grows up to 1 foot (30.5 cm) tall and lives for around 20 years. It is very resistant to destructive insect infestation but susceptible to disease.

It has many narrow, straight stems covered in thin, rough, dark brown bark, and the wood inside is mahogany-coloured.

The branches are very long and slender with hundreds of twigs that and are covered with large amounts of huge, slender, pointed, leaves with smooth edges. The leaves themselves are azure at the bottom and intense purple with turquoise zig-zags at the top, strong and soft.

It produces bunches of tiny, amber flowers with 4 V-shaped shaped petals. They are sturdy and have a weak scent that smells like citrus. In late winter it forms medium-sizedgreen, spiky-shelled seeds.
