Spiny Sunburst

Succulent type: Caudiciform (Stores water in the thickened base of its stem)

This giant caudiciform grows up to 141 feet (43.0 meters) tall. The very thick stem is yellow, and is covered in thousands of rigid dark yellow spines. The wide, cream trunk can grow to as much as 141 feet (43.0 meters) in diameter. Its yellow and yellow-green branches are very long and slender.

The rounded-edged, fan-like leaves are a shade of brown that gradient shifts to yellow at the top. They are flimsy, and are very difficult to pull away.

It is very slow growing, taking 18 years to reach maturity. Once mature, and only under the right conditions, a single flower with petals that are aquamarine on the underside and white on the top grows at the top, reappearing after 7 years, but only when the conditions are right again. The flower head is made up of several petals; the lower layer of petals are flat, while the upper layers form a tight cup. It has an intensely strong scent that smells like alcohol.

The caudiciform's skin is thin, the washed-out blue flesh is rough, and the blue sap is thin and causes vomiting if consumed.

It absorbs an exceptionally large amount of water each day.
It spreads easily and often blanket large areas.
