Bloodstone Succulent

This short leaf succulent grows up to 4 feet (1.2 meters) tall. The narrow stem is orange, and is covered in many fine, silver, hair-like spines. The pebble-like leaves are generally blood red. Thick bunches of them grow on thin, burgundy branches that are short, rigid and upright. The leaves are resilient, but take little effort to detach.

It is very slow growing, taking 6 years to reach maturity. Once mature, and only under the right conditions, several flowers with solid peach petals decorated with cyan lines and a grey central disk grow at the top, reappearing after 9 years, but only when the conditions are right again. The flower head is an uncoordinated mess of 31 curved petals. It has a delicate scent that smells like pepper.

The leaf succulent's skin is thin, the hazel flesh is leathery, and the beige sap is thin.
