Burgundy Willow

Shrub type: Deciduous (Stores water in its leaves)

This short shrub grows up to 1 foot (30.5 cm) tall and lives for around 26 years. It is very susceptible to disease and insect infestation.

It has dozens of stocky, straight stems covered in thin, cracked, burgundy bark, and the wood inside is brown.

The branches trail down across the ground with dozens of twigs that and are covered with large amounts of miniature, thin, leaves with smooth edges. The leaves themselves are generally olive, resilient and rough.

It produces large amounts of small, blue flowers with slender, pointed petals. They detach easily and have a powerful scent that smells like roses. In mid-summer it forms smallfaded purple aril (seeds with fleshy covers).

It is suitable for making baskets and the like
The colour changes depends on whether the soil is acidic or alkaline.
