Blue Jacaranda

This large fruit tree grows up to 36 feet (11.0 meters) tall and lives for up to 10 years, with the oldest known specimen being around 17 years old. It is very resistant to disease but is susceptible to destructive insect infestation.

It has a narrow, wonky trunk covered in thick, ridged, silver and white bark, and inside, the light wood is light brown.

The sparse amount of branches are long, thin and wispy and are covered with handfuls of large, slender, pointed leaves with serrated edges. The leaves themselves are solid sky blue with slate splotches.

In early spring, it produces a thick sheet of large, beige blossoms with 7 kidney-shaped shaped petals. They detach easily and have a soft scent that smells like fermented fruit.

In early summer it produces small, long, narrow fruit. The fuzzy cyan skin is peel-able and inedible, and the crunchy indigo flesh is sweet and syrupy. The gold seeds are small and are bunched at the bottom of the fruit.

The roots are shallow and widely spread, and overall the tree is sturdy and difficult to uproot.

Forests of this species feature the trees packed together densely, with patches of undergrowth between them.
