Purplefruit Tree

Fruit Tree type: Deciduous (Stores water in the thickened base of its stem)

This huge fruit tree grows up to 73 feet (22.3 meters) tall and lives for up to 25 years, with the oldest known specimen being around 28 years old. It is somewhat resistant to disease and destructive insect infestation.

It has a branched, twisting trunk covered in thick, ridged, mahogany-coloured bark, and inside, the dense wood is burgundy-brown.

The tangled mess of branches are very short, thin and wispy and are covered with copious amounts of giant, very thick leaves with smooth edges. The leaves themselves are either black or vibrant purple, with lime edges.

In early spring, it produces thick bunches of medium-sized, sky blue blossoms with spear shaped petals with a bell-shaped floral cup. They are hardy and have a scent that varies in strength that smells like warm cookies.

In early autumn it produces , stiff, pointed fruit. The soft yellow skin is tough and inedible, and the very soft light brown flesh is bitter and savoury and syrupy. The hazel seed is tiny and sits at the end of the fruit.

The roots grow as a near perfect mirror of the tree above, and overall the tree is rigid and brittle.

Forests of this species feature the trees packed together, with the space between filled with undergrowth.

It is suitable for creating tough, hard-wearing textiles
