Bloodfruit Tree

This short fruit tree grows up to 7 feet (2.1 meters) tall and lives for up to 15 years, with the oldest known specimen being around 34 years old. It is somewhat resistant to disease and destructive insect infestation.

It has a stocky, wonky trunk covered in waxy, brown-green bark, and inside, the dense wood is gray.

The branches are short stubs and are covered with large amounts of miniature, heart-shaped leaves with irregular edges. The leaves themselves are generally blood red.

In early spring, it produces lots of large, silver blossoms with crescent-shaped shaped petals. They detach easily and have the faintest scent that smells like rich perfume.

In mid-summer it produces tiny, oblong fruit. The rough red skin is delicate and inedible, and the soft hazel flesh is sweet and sour and very dry. The black seed is small and sits at the end of the fruit.

The roots form a tightly packed ball, and overall the tree is sturdy and rigid.

Forests of this species feature the trees packed together, with grassy ground between them.
