Bronzeberry

Fruit Tree type: Deciduous (Stores water in its stem)

This short fruit tree grows up to 9 feet (2.7 meters) tall and lives for up to 20 years, with the oldest known specimen being around 41 years old. It is very resistant to disease but is susceptible to destructive insect infestation.

It has a thick, straight trunk covered in knobbly, dark gray bark, and inside, the very hard wood is pale yellow.

The sparse amount of branches are tall, rigid and upright and are covered with small amounts of miniature, pleated leaves with smooth edges. The leaves themselves are purple and hazel.

In early spring, it produces many balls of small, bronze blossoms with long, narrow petals. They are sturdy and have a delicate scent that smells like honeysuckle.

In early summer it produces small, long, tapering fruit. The leathery orange skin is peel-able and inedible, and the very soft deep orange flesh is sweet and juicy. The light brown seeds are small and are scattered throughout the fruit.

The roots spread far and go deep underground, and overall the tree is sturdy and difficult to uproot.

Forests of this species feature the trees packed together densely, with the space between filled with undergrowth.

It is suitable for making baskets and the like
