Copperfruit Tree

This small fruit tree grows up to 7 feet (2.1 meters) tall and lives for up to 10 years, with the oldest known specimen being around 34 years old. It is not very resistant to disease and destructive insect infestation.

It has a narrow, straight trunk covered in ridged, dark gray bark, and inside, the very light wood is black with white speckles.

The tangled mess of branches are very long and slender and are covered with large amounts of miniature, pleated leaves with serrated edges. The leaves themselves are amber on the sides and copper at the center.

In early spring, it produces dozens of medium-sized, deep purple blossoms with teardrop-shaped shaped petals. They are sturdy and have an intensely strong scent that smells like rotten eggs.

In late autumn it produces small, long, tapering fruit. The sticky slate skin is thick and inedible, and the very soft amber flesh is sweet and oily. The bronze seed is large and sits at the end of the fruit.

The roots are fine and grow in a large web, and overall the tree is rigid and weak, and breaks apart easily.

Forests of this species feature the trees packed together, with the space between filled with undergrowth.
