Aquamareine Fireflower

Flower type: Biennial (Stores water in its leaves)

This average-sized flower grows up to 1.1 feet (33 cm) tall. Its aquamarine stem is thick and straight with a curved tip, and the giant, orange leaves are asymmetrical with smooth edges. A pair of leaves grow at the base of the flower head.

Two small flowers sit at the end of each stem. The flowers are 3 cm (1.2 inches) wide, with alternating petals of vibrant purple and brilliant blue, with a grey central disk. The flower head is made up of 12 petals in raised layers. They are sturdy.

It has a strong scent that smells like petrol, and it has very little pollen; it can cause severe allergic reactions. It is pollinated by insects and is particularly attractive to a specific species.

It is frequently struck by lightning.
It makes a distinctive sound when the wind blows through it.
