Indigo Fruit Tree

This modest-sized fruit tree grows up to 20 feet (6.1 meters) tall and lives for up to 40 years, with the oldest known specimen being around 60 years old. It is susceptible to disease and destructive insect infestation.

It has a branched, wavy trunk covered in fine, ridged, gray bark, and inside, the dense wood is white.

The small handful of branches are short and thick and are covered with small amounts of giant, needle-like leaves with rounded edges. The leaves themselves are gold on the edges and indigo at the center.

In early spring, it produces bunches of giant, green blossoms with sickle shaped petals with a tube-like floral cup. They are hardy and have an overpowering scent that smells like perfume.

In mid-autumn it produces small, pleated fruit. The soft bronze skin is peel-able and edible when cooked; it is overwhelmingly sweet, and the very soft turquoise flesh is sweet and very dry. The dark brown seed is tiny and sits at the top of the fruit.

The roots are thick and spread across the surface, as well as underground, and overall the tree is sturdy, flexible, and difficult to uproot or break.

Forests of this species feature the trees packed together, with patches of undergrowth between them.
