Bluefruit Tree

Fruit Tree type: Deciduous (Stores water in the thickened base of its stem)

This short fruit tree grows up to 9 feet (2.7 meters) tall and lives for up to 20 years, with the oldest known specimen being around 46 years old. It is not very resistant to disease and destructive insect infestation.

It has a very thick, wonky trunk covered in waxy, pine-coloured bark, and inside, the soft wood is mahogany-coloured.

The small bunches of branches trail down towards the ground and are covered with thick bunches of giant, stiff, pointed leaves with smooth edges. The leaves themselves are gray-green with sky blue tips.

In early spring, it produces hundreds of small, pastel blue blossoms with wide petals. They are hardy and have the faintest scent that smells like burning wood.

In early autumn it produces , stiff, pointed fruit. The smooth turquoise skin is peel-able and edible when cooked; it is sour and savoury, and the very soft white flesh is salty and sticky. The gold seed is large and is in the centre of the fruit.

The roots are shallow and widely spread, and overall the tree is sturdy and difficult to uproot.

Forests of this species feature well-spaced trees, with the space between filled with undergrowth.
