This brown moss is commonly found growing in large clumps In damp forests, On rotten logs, and In marshes.
It is average-sized, growing up to 4 inches (10 cm) tall. It forms in thin clumps and they spread and grow quickly, and is very sturdy; it is very difficult to kill.
When mature, emerald oblong capsules grow at the end of elongated, lime green sporophytes, eventually opening up during the early summer to release millions of spores; it does not cause any allergic reactions.

All of it is said to be part of one single, massive plant.
It is suitable for making paper
It is difficult to kill and will quickly regrow if it falls or if its limbs are knocked off.
