Blood Red

This big caudiciform grows up to 73 feet (22.3 meters) tall. The needle-like stem is slate and blood red, and is covered in thick sheets of rigid pastel purple spines. It has a straight, flat, grey trunk atop a flat mess of knobbly, exposed roots. The branches are wide and burgundy and are short stubs.

The rounded-edged, wispy leaves are found in brown, light grey and light grey varieties. They are sturdy, and take some effort to detach.

It is slow growing, taking 24 years to reach maturity. Once mature, and only under the right conditions, several flowers with solid aquamarine petals and a sky blue central disk grow at the top, reappearing after 5 years, but only when the conditions are right again. The flower head is shaped like a cup made up of 8 widely spaced, narrow petals. It has an intense scent that smells like pine needles.

The caudiciform's skin is thin, the florescent green flesh is rough, and the pink sap is thin.
