Bloodfruit Tree

This big fruit tree grows up to 23 feet (7.0 meters) tall and lives for up to 45 years, with the oldest known specimen being around 58 years old. It is very resistant to destructive insect infestation but susceptible to disease.

It has a knobbly, crooked trunk covered in delicate, knobbly, yellow-brown bark, and inside, the hard wood is pine-coloured.

The large clumps of branches are very short and thin and are covered with copious amounts of giant, finger-like leaves with smooth edges. The leaves themselves are solid caramel with silver dots.

In early spring, it produces many medium-sized, blood red blossoms with pleated petals. They fall easily and have a weak scent that smells like blood.

In late autumn it produces large, long, tapering fruit. The waxy blue skin is thin and inedible, and the crunchy beige flesh is savoury and oily. The dull green seeds are large and are scattered throughout the fruit.

The roots grow as a near perfect mirror of the tree above, and overall the tree is rigid and brittle.

Forests of this species feature well-spaced trees, with grassy ground between them.
