Indigo

This small fruit tree grows up to 8 feet (2.4 meters) tall and lives for up to 35 years, with the oldest known specimen being around 41 years old. It is very susceptible to disease and insect infestation.

It has a knobbly, angular trunk covered in paper-thin, cracked, light gray bark, and inside, the soft wood is copper-coloured.

The small handful of branches are long, thin and wispy and are covered with large amounts of large, slender, pointed leaves with irregular edges. The leaves themselves are yellow on the sides and white at the center.

In early spring, it produces a thick sheet of small, indigo blossoms with sickle shaped petals with a bell-shaped floral cup. They are very delicate and have an intensely strong scent that smells like marzipan.

In early summer it produces , long, curved fruit. The soft peach skin is thick and edible when roasted; it is sweet, and the slightly crunchy yellow flesh is slightly bitter and powdery. The silver seed is small and sits at the end of the fruit.

The roots are shallow and grow straight down, and overall the tree is rigid and weak, and breaks apart easily.

Forests of this species feature the trees packed together, with the space between them filled with thick undergrowth.
