Bloodfruit Tree

This big fruit tree grows up to 35 feet (10.7 meters) tall and lives for up to 35 years, with the oldest known specimen being around 58 years old. It is not very resistant to disease and destructive insect infestation.

It has a sturdy, wavy trunk covered in rough, light brown bark, and inside, the hard wood is yellow-brown.

The branches are very long and thick and are covered with large amounts of huge, 7 pointed leaves with smooth edges. The leaves themselves are found in blood red and hazel varieties.

In early spring, it produces a handful of medium-sized, silver blossoms with finger-like petals. They fall easily and have a powerful scent that smells like glue.

In late autumn it produces small, oval fruit. The waxy yellow skin is thick and sweet, and the slightly crunchy light grey flesh is bitter and sour and syrupy. The intense yellow seeds are small and are scattered throughout the fruit.

The roots are shallow and widely spread, and overall the tree is rigid and brittle.

Forests of this species feature the trees packed together, with clear space between them.
