This orange-yellow moss is commonly found growing in small clumps In moorlands, In marshes, and In damp forests.
It is small, growing up to 2 inches (5 cm) tall. It forms in sparse patches, and is extremely frail.
When mature, emerald V-shaped capsules grow at the end of short, lime green sporophytes, eventually opening up during the early summer to release hundred of spores.

The colour changes depends on whether the soil is acidic or alkaline.
All parts of the caudiciform are edible.
It is suitable for creating flexible, durable textiles
