Copperleaf

Shrub type: Deciduous (Grows along the ground or other low surfaces.)

This small shrub grows up to 1 foot (30.5 cm) tall and lives for around 50 years. It is susceptible to disease and destructive insect infestation.

It has dozens of branched, wavy stems covered in smooth, copper-coloured bark, and the wood inside is pine-coloured.

The branches are tall, rigid and upright with hundreds of twigs that and are covered with small bunches of miniature, thin, leaves with tattered edges. The leaves themselves are silver with peach tips, flexible and smooth.

In late summer it produces hundreds of giant, gold blossoms with fan-like petals with a bell-shaped floral cup. They are very delicate and have a weak scent that smells like vanilla.

In early autumn fan-like fruits ripen. The fuzzy vibrant red skin is stretchy and inedible, and the soft light yellow flesh is sweet and sticky. The caramel seeds are small and are dotted around on the skin of the fruit.

It usually houses a colony of beneficial insects.
Once on fire, it burns very quickly.
It is suitable for use as a construction material
