Blackpetal

Flower type: Biennial (Grows upwards by clinging to almost any surface.)

This modest-sized flower grows up to 6 inches (15 cm) tall. Its gray-green and yellow-green stem is thin and splits into 5 branching stems at the top, and the miniature, red leaves are needle-like with rounded edges. Many leaves grow along the entire length of the stem.

Dozens of tiny flowers grow along the length of the stem. The flowers are 19 cm (7.5 inches) wide, with petals that are generally black; each flower tends to be a variation of this colour. The flower head is shaped like a bowl made up of many raised, round-tipped petals. They fall easily.

It has a fairly strong scent that smells like fresh linen, and it has an average amount of pollen; it does not cause any allergic reactions. It is pollinated by insects and is particularly attractive to butterflies.

Several parts of the shrub have medicinal properties.
It absorbs an exceptionally large amount of water each day.
It is suitable for making strong rope
A particular bird species likes to nest in it.
