Copperflower

This small flower grows up to 4 inches (10 cm) tall. Its pink-red stem is very thin, and the miniature, orange-yellow leaves are spear shaped with smooth edges. Many leaves grow at the base of the stem, and more leaves alternate on the stem from about halfway up, up to the flower head.

4 to 7 giant flowers grow on alternate sides up the length of the stem. The flowers are 6 cm (2.4 inches) wide, with solid copper petals decorated with azure dots and a copper central disk. The flower head is shaped like a sphere with 35 tightly layered, round-tipped petals. They are hardy.

It has an overpowering scent that smells like old shoes, and it has a modest amount of pollen. It is pollinated by the wind.
