Blueberry Palm

This short fruit tree grows up to 7 feet (2.1 meters) tall and lives for up to 35 years, with the oldest known specimen being around 55 years old. It is very susceptible to disease and insect infestation.

It has a thick, straight trunk covered in thin, cracked, light brown bark, and inside, the medium-dense wood is dark brown.

The abundance of branches are very long and thick and are covered with small amounts of giant, finger-like leaves with smooth edges. The leaves themselves are blue on the edges and lilac at the center.

In early spring, it produces a thick sheet of medium-sized, lime blossoms with slender, pointed petals. They are sturdy and have a delicate scent that smells like glue.

In mid-summer it produces , long, curved fruit. The sticky white skin is thin and bitter and savoury, and the crunchy beige flesh is bitter and spicy and very juicy. The black seed is tiny and is in the centre of the fruit.

The roots are shallow and widely spread, and overall the tree is sturdy and rigid.

Forests of this species feature the trees packed together, with patches of undergrowth between them.
